Deramaxx is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) belonging to the COX-2 inhibitor class. This medication is similar to the human medications Celebrex and Bextra. It is FDA approved for use in dogs for the control of pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic surgery.
How this medicine should be used ?
The usual dose of Deramaxx in dogs for the treatment of postoperative orthopedic pain and inflammation is 1.4-1.8mg/pound as a single daily dose. The usual dose of Deramaxx in dogs for the treatment of osteoarthritis pain and inflammation is 0.45-0.91mg/pound as a single daily dose.
What are the side effects ?
Side effects of Deramaxx in dogs may include vomiting, diarrhea, bloody stools and drainage or oozing at the surgical site.
What special precautions are there ?
Do not use Deramaxx in animals allergic to it. Deramaxx should not be used with other NSAIDS such as aspirin, Rimadyl or etodolac. Do not use this medication in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs. Do not use in dogs that are dehydrated, on diuretic therapy, or have a preexisting kidney, liver or cardiovascular dysfunction. Use with caution in dogs allergic to sulfonamides. This medication is for use in dogs only. Always tell your veterinarian and pharmacist what other medications your pet is taking.
In the event of an overdose
Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room. Symptoms of overdose may include vomiting, diarrhea and bloody stool.
How should I store this medication ?
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed. Store tablets at room temperature, away from excess heat, light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Keep medication out of the reach of children and pets.
